Kilimanjaro 7 Days Machame Route Itinerary
Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel in Moshi. You'll drive to Machame Gate (1,800m), where you'll register for the trek. Hike through lush rainforest for approximately 5-6 hours, enjoying the rich flora and fauna, including unique bird species. Arrive at Machame Camp (2,980m) in the late afternoon for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira Camp
After breakfast, continue your ascent. Trek through moorland, with stunning views of Kilimanjaro, taking about 4-5 hours. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way. Arrive at Shira Camp (3,840m) in the afternoon, where you can rest and enjoy the spectacular views of the mountain.
Day 3: Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
This day is spent acclimatizing while trekking to Barranco Camp. Hike for approximately 6-7 hours, passing through the Lava Tower (4,600m) for excellent acclimatization. Enjoy lunch along the way and arrive at Barranco Camp (3,960m) in the late afternoon for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
After breakfast, tackle the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb that takes about 2-3 hours. Enjoy breathtaking views from the top before continuing on the trail for another 3-4 hours to Karanga Camp (4,035m). Have lunch and relax, taking in the stunning surroundings.
Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Leave Karanga Camp after breakfast and trek for about 3-4 hours to Barafu Camp (4,640m). This camp is the starting point for your summit attempt. Spend the afternoon resting and preparing for the climb ahead. Enjoy an early dinner and get some rest.
Day 6: Summit Day: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Camp
Wake up early, around midnight, for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). The trek takes about 6-8 hours, reaching the summit in the early morning. Enjoy the breathtaking sunrise before beginning the descent. Return to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp (3,100m) for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 7: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
After breakfast, descend from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate (1,640m). The trek takes about 3-4 hours, passing through lush rainforest and celebrating your successful ascent of Kilimanjaro. At Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates and then return to Moshi for a well-deserved celebration of your achievement!
